Across North America the Military has had their presence in the form of bases that have made up entire communities and local economies. Gradual changes to National Defense over time have meant the closing down of some military bases and the subsequent abandonment and bareness of the local community and economy. However, there have been three such vacant military bases that have been redeveloped into sustainable eco-communities and given a second life as urban centers. Here are three sustainably repurposed military bases in the U.S.:

  2. Orange County Great Park, Irvine CA
  3. The Dunes on Monterey Bay, Marina CA
